Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr to Host Free Community Breakfast Event on August 11

Murfreesboro, TN – August 7, 2023 – Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr invites the community to a free Breakfast With The Mayor event be held on Friday, August 11^th at the Middle Tennessee Expo Center from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. This will be the first event of a series that will highlight local nonprofit organizations and the work they are doing to solve issues within our community.

 “This breakfast series was an idea that came from conversations I had with various directors of charitable organizations in the community coupled with the need to share the vision and purpose of the mayor’s office,” said Mayor Carr.

The highlighted nonprofit at the inaugural breakfast event will be local hunger relief organization Feed America First. “I happened to be over at Feed America First on a tour and saw they were going through a $1.9 million dollar building project and thought this would be an excellent way to raise awareness about the great work going on,” said Mayor Carr.

Feed America First receives large-scale food donations from manufacturers across the nation and divides and distributes that food to food pantries, other community resource agencies in small towns and rural areas across the south, including Rutherford County. Feed America First also seeks strategic partnerships to solve unique issues, such as providing food to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department Senior Citizens Awareness Network to hand deliver food to elderly and shut-ins when needed.  Feed America First is undergoing a refrigeration/freezer expansion project that will allow the organization to save more fresh, perishable food for our neighbors in need. Feed America First Executive Director Mike Womack will speak alongside Mayor Carr at this event.

“We are humbled to be chosen by Mayor Carr to be highlighted at this event. We believe hunger is a local problem, solved by neighbors helping neighbors. The stronger our Rutherford County network of awareness and supporters, the stronger we can be as an organization to end hunger right here in our own back yards. It takes all of us working together,” said Mike Womack.
